Its diverse and polycentric structure is characteristic of CENTROPE. With their complementary attributes the urban agglomerations on the one hand and the rural areas on the other together make up the quality of CENTROPE as business location and living space.
The CENTROPE Infrastructure Needs Assessment Tool will constitute an important instrument to provide a sustainable procedure for a periodical assessment of the status quo in the field of spatial development and the resulting infrastructural requirements and a help to develop a framework for a future common agenda of the CENTROPE region in this field. To achieve these aims, a wide cooperation with key stakeholders of the region is necessary in order to provide a multilevel and interdisciplinary expertise. Furthermore, the definition of infrastructure and development requirements has to be based on a correlation between three essential elements: mobility improvement, business location development and a functional spatial integration. Building on these key elements, common infrastructure needs can be identified. Developing infrastructure according to these needs is then likely to help the CENTROPE region positioning itself as an important transport and logistic hub on the European level.
An interim report is available from the Czech, German, Hungarian and Slovak Website sections.
