Editorial – Centrope Capacity Newsletter
2010 is a very special year. On the one hand, the worst turbulences caused by the international financial and economic crisis seem to be gradually subsiding. On the other hand, the European Union and its currency, the Euro, are faced with a not-to-be-underestimated endurance test due to the recently escalated Greek crisis. Both events clearly highlight the urgent need of placing the economic and social development of Europe on a politically widely supported and efficiently organised basis of cooperation between the Member States and their institutions.
Albeit on a comparably small scale, the cross-border region CENTROPE constitutes a testing-ground par excellence of economically and socially relevant multilateral cooperation fuelled by the aim of advancing integration and enhancing the region’s ability to resist and weather crises.
Starting as of now, centrope.news, the electronic newsletter of the “Central European Region – CENTROPE”, will be published in a new guise and with new content. centrope.news wants to inform about developments in CENTROPE and to disseminate more in-depth knowledge about the region and its possible roads into the future.
