On 7 September 2011, Petr Kotyza from Brno was awarded the annual CENTROPE Prize for his exceptional personal commitment to the cause of cross-border co-operation.
This tribute to personal achievement was given to Petr Kotyza, the director of a primary school and kindergarten in Brno, for his efforts to bring together children from his home-city and the Austrian municipality of Schwechat. The exchange between youngsters from two countries who would otherwise have never come together helps to develop a sense of common identity among the young people of CENTROPE and strengthens co-operation within the cross-border region.
Following the ceremony, Reinhard Karl, board member of Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien AG, stated, “I’m happy that we could give this year’s award to someone whose work helps to raise awareness for cross-border co-operation by children and young people.”
This was already the fifth time that the CENTROPE Prize, which is endowed with Euro 10,000, was adjudicated by the City of Vienna and Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien AG together with the embassies of the CENTROPE countries.
