CENTROPE's life sciences on the move

Biotechnology stakeholders from the cross-border region and beyond gathered at a life science event dedicated to networking and a contact exchange as an opportunity to create partnerships and foster co-operation.

To become competitive on a global scale, it is essential to concentrate on the knowledge economy and the accumulation of critical mass through cross-border co-operation. In CENTROPE, life sciences stand out as an increasingly active and important sector, in particular due to the growing biotech clusters in Vienna and Lower Austria or the new Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) in Brno. In order to use these facilities in a way that will benefit the whole region, exchanging contacts, creating partnerships and fostering co-operation are called for.

Organised by the CENTROPE CAPACITY and centrope_tt projects together with Vienna University of Technology and LISAvienna, the Life Science Day on 15 November 2011 was one such opportunity. Participants from all CENTROPE countries as well as from France, the UK and China met for various events over the entire day. Beyond a general focus on the CENTROPE region, two specifically “CENTROPEan” events addressed effective ways to meet partners through innovative methods such as “speed dating” or 120-second presentation formats. All together, 85 participants contributed to the CENTROPE-specifc part of the event, including 40 presentations and 64 bilateral discussions. The rich co-operation perspectives highlighted by the event demonstrated once more that CENTROPE’s biotech industry has the potential to emerge as a highly competitive and dynamic cross-border sector.
